It wasn"t long ago that we discussed the prospect (and wishful thinking) of seeing an Arc System Works-developed One Piece fighting game in the style of long Ball FighterZ. Though some might think it would be the first time the Guilty Gear developers handled such a project — if a game lượt thích this were ever to lớn come to lớn pass — that actually wouldn"t be the case, as 2016"s One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum on the Nintendo 3DS was a team-based fighter featuring the Straw Hats & their colorful cast of friends và foes which was developed by ArcSys / published by Bandai Namco.

Dragon Ball Z & One Piece are absolute titans in the world of anime và manga, & seeing the two worlds crossover in the fighting trò chơi space would be a dream come true. Well, that has actually already happened, & this week happens lớn be the anniversary of when One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum and Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden were given cross-battle functionality between the titles allowing players lớn use their DBZ fighters against One Piece characters and vice versa — but it was only ever implemented in Japan.

It was five years ago now that the two titles saw the cross-battle featured implemented. Bandai Namco released a special trailer showcasing Luffy Fourth Gear và Super Saiyan blue Goku going head-to-head, which was followed by gameplay footage of several other epic pairings from dragon Ball Z và One Piece.

One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum was released on Nintendo"s handheld on September 21, 2016, and when the trò chơi was first announced fans thought it looked awfully similar khổng lồ Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden — which launched the year prior. Clearly, this was no coincidence as Arc System Works also developed the DBZ title on the 3DS, và clearly plans for the crossover were planned all along.

Unfortunately, as previously stated, we never received this amazing crossover in North America. The reason for this exclusivity is because One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum was only ever released in Japan, even though Extreme Butoden found its way overseas.

Had the One Piece title saw an international release, fans would have been treated to lớn local and online battles between Colosseum và Butoden. Epic match ups such as Broly vs. Akainu, Boa Hancock vs. App android 18, and of course, Luffy vs. Goku, would have all been at your fingertips.

Here during its anniversary week, Twitter account Fighting trò chơi Anniversaries reminds us what all this crossover entailed. Both games played as team-style fighting games, which allowed players khổng lồ use their choice of a squad formation.

Not unlike Capcom vs. SNK & Skullgirls, you could select how many playable characters and how many assists you want for your team, so long as you obey the point limitations. Players could use one character with the backing of five assists, or go traditional and just use a full gang of three contenders.

Though both One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum và Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden weren"t exactly on the best platform for competitive fighting games, each one still has the makings of a great title. At this point, we can only hope that Arc System Works & Bandai Namco might re-release both titles digitally on modern consoles and allow players all over the world to experience the tremendous crossover between two legendary anime / manga series firsthand.
